Skill description part 1 "The players"

The partners behind unmanned aviation in the region

The integration of unmanned aircraft systems into airspace requires technical expertise, regulatory coordination, and operational experience. At b.r.m. IT & Aerospace GmbH, we combine these skills and are the point of contact for all flight projects involving unmanned systems—together with Oldenburg-Hatten Airport as our operational base.

b.r.m. it & Aerospace GmbH

As the central point of contact for all flight projects involving unmanned systems, we take on the technical and operational management of UAS trials – from flight planning and coordination with the authorities to implementation. As a future U-Space service provider, we operate the b.r.m. UAS control center Bremen USSP, which enables the safe coordination of manned and unmanned aircraft in the same airspace. Thanks to our extensive BVLOS experience, we can also reliably carry out flights beyond visual line of sight – in a flight area of over 3,600 km².

Oldenburg-Hatten Airport (EDWH)

The Oldenburg-Hatten airfield forms the operational base. With 16 hectares of operating space, a tower, training rooms, and 5,500 m² of hangar space, it offers ideal conditions. Thanks to comprehensive expansion of the permits, manned and unmanned air traffic can be coordinated in parallel here. The airfield is responsible for providing the infrastructure, tower arrangements, space allocation, approvals for segregated areas, and ground safety coordination. Here you will find everything you need for a comprehensive testing or flight campaign.

Cloud vs. private cloud vs. on-premise

Cloud vs. private cloud vs. on-premise: Why on-premise can be a modern choice

Companies are faced with the decision of whether to operate their IT infrastructure in the cloud, in a private cloud or on-premise. There are numerous reasons why on-premise infrastructures can still be a modern and strategically valuable choice today.

On-premise: Maximum control, security and adaptability

On-premise solutions enable companies to run their data and applications on their own servers, which offers maximum control and data security. Especially in times of increasing cyber attacks and stricter data protection laws, this is an invaluable advantage. Companies can optimize their infrastructure and implement security protocols that are tailored to their specific needs. Independence from external providers allows them to react flexibly and quickly to new security requirements.

An often overlooked benefit of on-premise solutions is the ability to develop customized IT solutions that support specific business processes. While cloud solutions offer standardized services, companies in an on-premise environment retain full control over their IT resources without having to make compromises or accept restrictions from third-party providers.

Cloud solutions: Flexibility on demand, but with compromises

Public clouds from providers such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud enable rapid scalability and flexibility. There is a pay-per-use option, which appears cost-effective at first glance. However, the public cloud also brings with it dependencies and potential risks, such as in terms of data sovereignty and compliance.

Private cloud: a hybrid approach

The private cloud combines the advantages of on-premise and public cloud. It offers a dedicated IT infrastructure, either on site or in a provider's data center, which offers more control than the public cloud. However, there is still a dependency on the provider and the flexibility is often less than with fully self-managed solutions.

Conclusion: on-premise as a future-proof strategy

Although the cloud offers many advantages, companies should not underestimate the benefits of on-premise solutions. With maximum control, customizability and security, an on-premise infrastructure can be an innovative choice for companies that want to tailor their IT strategy independently. Especially for companies with strict compliance requirements and a desire for long-term cost transparency, on-premise is a modern, strategic choice.

b.r.m. takes off - New location at Bremen Airport

The b.r.m. IT & Aerospace moved to new premises in the immediate vicinity of Bremen Airport on October 8, 2025. From now on, we will be working at Hanna-Kunath-Straße 31 on forward-looking topics relating to unmanned aviation as well as efficient and sustainable IT solutions.

With our move, we are even closer to the center of the City of Aerospace. The new location also means shorter distances to local partners and institutions. In this way, we are strengthening precisely what makes us special: networked expertise in IT and unmanned aviation.

Even closer to the aviation of tomorrow

The close proximity to Bremen Airport is much more than just a new address for us. Here, where airliners, research projects and industry meet every day, we work on solutions for U-Space, advanced air mobility and safe drone operations. For our customers, this means even more practical relevance, faster coordination and a working environment that literally breathes innovation.

At the same time, we are consistently developing our Bremen UAS control center - as a future U-Space service provider and partner for demanding BVLOS and special missions.

This makes it even easier for our employees, guests and project partners to visit us: whether by plane, train, streetcar or car - our office can be reached quickly and is ideally connected to the city, region and international hubs.

Drone Days: Community meets location advantage

The new location also brings the Drone Days even closer together. The industry event with international appeal combines a conference, exhibition and live demonstrations between Oldenburg-Hatten and Bremen. The airport location offers us ideal conditions to bring future topics such as urban mobility, security applications and new deployment scenarios directly to life.

What remains unchanged despite all the changes

The environment is new, but our attitude remains the same: sustainable, reliable, North German clarity. Whether IT service, manned or unmanned aviation - at Bremen Airport, we also stand for innovative technology, active responsibility and many happy landings with our customers, partners and the Drone Days community.

6th Lower Saxony Aviation Day at Hanover Airport

Rossol ton

Yesterday, Thursday 25.09.2025, the 6th Lower Saxony Aviation Day took place in Hanover. Our Harald Rossol was there with Andreas Eickhoff, Senator for Economics, Ports and Transformation.

A great event with good networking opportunities. The @Drone Days were also present here.

Harald Rossol had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Grant Hendrik Tonne, Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, about UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), USSP (U-Space Service Provider) of General Aviation and, of course, the Drone Days. Here, too, it became clear that the aviation industry is an indispensable factor in the federal state of Lower Saxony and the federal state of Bremen, which of course also includes unmanned aviation.

Best regards
Harald Rossol

Bremen (September 11, 2025) - The Bremen-based company "b.r.m. IT & Aerospace GmbH" was awarded the title "Annual Winner Motor of the North 2025" yesterday evening in the Hanseatic city. Christian Meyer-Hammerström, Managing Director of Osterholzer Stadtwerke and spokesman for the Powerhouse jury, presented the award to company founder Harald Rossol and his nephew and Co-Managing Director Markus Rossol together with Bremen's Mayor Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte in front of around 120 invited guests at the Weser Stadium.

The company was recognized for its achievements in the development of a national control system for civilian unmanned aerial vehicles, the expansion of the Hatten airfield (Oldenburg district) into a national drone test laboratory and the organization of the "Drone Days" as an industry get-together with international appeal at the Hatten site. b.r.m. was nominated. IT & Aerospace was nominated by the District Administrator of Oldenburg, Dr. Christian Pundt. The company had previously been recognized as the local "Motor of the North" in the district of Oldenburg and thus qualified for the election as the annual winner, where it prevailed against nine competitors.

"With the Motor of the North Innovation Award, we want to recognize companies, institutions, clubs, associations and networks that are particularly innovative and future-oriented and thus advance the region," explained Sepp Thiele, member of the Managing Board of Powerhouse Nord. The assessment criteria are degree of innovation, regional impact, sustainability and future orientation, cooperation and networking as well as exemplary character.

"Motor des Nordens" is an innovation prize sponsored by the Powerhouse Nord regional alliance, which has been awarded in cooperation with the municipalities in the Ems-Elbe region since 2024. The prize is not endowed. Each spring, Powerhouse Nord invites the district administrators and mayors of the Ems-Elbe region to nominate their local "Engine of the North" to Powerhouse Nord. "Ten municipalities took part this year," reported Thiele. The local award winners were honored in their respective municipalities over the past few months. Bremen was chosen as the location for the award ceremony for the annual winner in late summer this year, after Wilhelmshaven in 2024.

Local winners and therefore in the running for the 2025 annual award were also:

  • Runden Group GmbH & Co. KG from Damme (Vechta district),
  • AG Reederei Norden-Frisia from Norderney (Aurich district),
  • Kronsdobben GmbH from Friedeburg-Etzel (Wittmund district),
  • SciReef GmbH from Wihelmshaven,
  • Deutsches Institut für Lebensmitteltechnik e.V. from Quakenbrück (Osnabrück district),
  • Hotel Peter from Wingst (Cuxhaven district),
  • DFDS Germany ApS & Co. KG from the city of Cuxhaven,
  • Climate Cooperation Fischereihafen from Bremerhaven and
  • POLARIS Raumfahrzeuge GmbH from Bremen.

The five-member jury received detailed dossiers with the corresponding project descriptions for each candidate. On the basis of these documents, the candidates were assessed by the jurors in the five categories mentioned on a scale of 1 to 10. This resulted in five numerical values for each candidate, which were added together to produce an overall result. The candidate with the highest score is the winner.

In addition to Christian Meyer-Hammerström, the jury includes:

  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Weisensee, President of the Jade University of Applied Sciences Wilhelmshaven/Oldenburg/Elsfleth,
  • Tanja-Vera Asmussen, Co-Chairwoman of Powerhouse Nord e.V. and Deputy Chairwoman of the Management Board of Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg,
  • Karin Beckmann, State Commissioner for the district of Lüneburg and Head of the Lower Saxony Office for Regional Development, and
