From Bremen to Düsseldorf: b.r.m. brings UAS expertise to North Rhine-Westphalia's leading event

On February 3, we will be participating in the groundbreaking event "NRW: Pioneer for drones in airspace – facilitating access, solving challenges, applying technologies" in Düsseldorf, which will provide important impetus for the integration of UAS into German and European air traffic.

Harald Rossol, Managing Director of b.r.m. IT & Aerospace, will give a presentation on "Airports as test centers for UAS," drawing on valuable practical experience from our test area in northern Germany.

Our practical experience from the north:
✈️ U-Space real-world laboratory in north-west Germany & the German Bight with 3,600 km² BVLOS flight area
✈️ Hatten-UAS German Flight Center at Oldenburg-Hatten Airport (EDWH) as a test center
✈️ Successful BVLOS missions with ranges of up to 600 km

Airports are more than just takeoff and landing sites—they are innovation labs for the aviation of tomorrow. Here, controlled conditions meet real-world air traffic environments, making them ideal testing grounds for UAS integration.

We look forward to exchanging ideas with experts from all over Germany. The future of unmanned aviation will be shaped together—from north to south.

Sustainability as a factor for success: insights from the RKW Future Conference 2025

Sunset Drone Days

Last year's Future Conference "Sustainable Success: SMEs with a Future" in Bremen posed the crucial question: How can sustainability become a competitive advantage?

Harald Rossol used b.r.m. as an example to show that the answer lies in a simple principle: "Efficiency means achieving the same result with significantly reduced resources." In the data center, this means up to 60% lower energy costs, achieved through the consistent use of server virtualization based on the principle of system avoidance and intelligent hot/cold aisle containment, which prevents temperature mixing.

Sustainability in aviation

We also apply this sustainable approach to our work in unmanned aviation. With our U-Space Real-World Laboratory North-West Germany and the UAS Control Center in Bremen, we are developing forward-looking solutions for the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems into airspace. Drones are already being used in environmental protection, offshore logistics, and infrastructure monitoring, and they are more efficient and resource-friendly than conventional methods. Whether it's IT services or UAS technology, our approach remains the same: "sustainable, reliable, and clear as North German weather."

The conference confirmed that companies that combine environmental responsibility with economic success and innovation are the winners of tomorrow.

6th Lower Saxony Aviation Day at Hanover Airport

Rossol ton

Yesterday, Thursday 25.09.2025, the 6th Lower Saxony Aviation Day took place in Hanover. Our Harald Rossol was there with Andreas Eickhoff, Senator for Economics, Ports and Transformation.

A great event with good networking opportunities. The @Drone Days were also present here.

Harald Rossol had the opportunity to talk to Mr. Grant Hendrik Tonne, Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs, about UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), USSP (U-Space Service Provider) of General Aviation and, of course, the Drone Days. Here, too, it became clear that the aviation industry is an indispensable factor in the federal state of Lower Saxony and the federal state of Bremen, which of course also includes unmanned aviation.

Best regards
Harald Rossol

Bremen (September 11, 2025) - The Bremen-based company "b.r.m. IT & Aerospace GmbH" was awarded the title "Annual Winner Motor of the North 2025" yesterday evening in the Hanseatic city. Christian Meyer-Hammerström, Managing Director of Osterholzer Stadtwerke and spokesman for the Powerhouse jury, presented the award to company founder Harald Rossol and his nephew and Co-Managing Director Markus Rossol together with Bremen's Mayor Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte in front of around 120 invited guests at the Weser Stadium.

The company was recognized for its achievements in the development of a national control system for civilian unmanned aerial vehicles, the expansion of the Hatten airfield (Oldenburg district) into a national drone test laboratory and the organization of the "Drone Days" as an industry get-together with international appeal at the Hatten site. b.r.m. was nominated. IT & Aerospace was nominated by the District Administrator of Oldenburg, Dr. Christian Pundt. The company had previously been recognized as the local "Motor of the North" in the district of Oldenburg and thus qualified for the election as the annual winner, where it prevailed against nine competitors.

"With the Motor of the North Innovation Award, we want to recognize companies, institutions, clubs, associations and networks that are particularly innovative and future-oriented and thus advance the region," explained Sepp Thiele, member of the Managing Board of Powerhouse Nord. The assessment criteria are degree of innovation, regional impact, sustainability and future orientation, cooperation and networking as well as exemplary character.

"Motor des Nordens" is an innovation prize sponsored by the Powerhouse Nord regional alliance, which has been awarded in cooperation with the municipalities in the Ems-Elbe region since 2024. The prize is not endowed. Each spring, Powerhouse Nord invites the district administrators and mayors of the Ems-Elbe region to nominate their local "Engine of the North" to Powerhouse Nord. "Ten municipalities took part this year," reported Thiele. The local award winners were honored in their respective municipalities over the past few months. Bremen was chosen as the location for the award ceremony for the annual winner in late summer this year, after Wilhelmshaven in 2024.

Local winners and therefore in the running for the 2025 annual award were also:

  • Runden Group GmbH & Co. KG from Damme (Vechta district),
  • AG Reederei Norden-Frisia from Norderney (Aurich district),
  • Kronsdobben GmbH from Friedeburg-Etzel (Wittmund district),
  • SciReef GmbH from Wihelmshaven,
  • Deutsches Institut für Lebensmitteltechnik e.V. from Quakenbrück (Osnabrück district),
  • Hotel Peter from Wingst (Cuxhaven district),
  • DFDS Germany ApS & Co. KG from the city of Cuxhaven,
  • Climate Cooperation Fischereihafen from Bremerhaven and
  • POLARIS Raumfahrzeuge GmbH from Bremen.

The five-member jury received detailed dossiers with the corresponding project descriptions for each candidate. On the basis of these documents, the candidates were assessed by the jurors in the five categories mentioned on a scale of 1 to 10. This resulted in five numerical values for each candidate, which were added together to produce an overall result. The candidate with the highest score is the winner.

In addition to Christian Meyer-Hammerström, the jury includes:

  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Weisensee, President of the Jade University of Applied Sciences Wilhelmshaven/Oldenburg/Elsfleth,
  • Tanja-Vera Asmussen, Co-Chairwoman of Powerhouse Nord e.V. and Deputy Chairwoman of the Management Board of Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg,
  • Karin Beckmann, State Commissioner for the district of Lüneburg and Head of the Lower Saxony Office for Regional Development, and

Prof. Thomas Albert, Director of the Musikfest Bremen gGmbH
