b.r.m. IT & Aerospace GmbH was again awarded the prestigious EcoStep certificate on February 23, 2024, making it the first company with a management system for a U-Space Service Provider (USSP), a certification that combines the most important standard requirements of ISO standards 9001, 14001 and 45001. This is another milestone and very special moment for us and underlines our commitment to the field of unmanned aviation. This multiple certification recognizes our approach to quality, environmental protection and health and safety at work.

As a U-Space Service Provider (USSP), b.r.m. IT & Aerospace will play a decisive role in the integration of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The EcoStep certification demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards in quality, environmental management and occupational safety. Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is an aviation concept that develops and implements innovative aviation technologies to improve the safety, sustainability and efficiency of aviation. This applies to both urban air mobility (UAM) and regional air mobility (RAM).

Increasing urbanization is exacerbating the socio-economic disparities between urban and rural areas, which can lead to difficulties in terms of infrastructural connections and supply in rural areas. Local and long-distance public transport connections with trains and buses are often limited and deliveries of goods are very time-consuming. As a result, the quality of supply for people and companies in rural areas suffers. Drones are already being used for agricultural purposes in rural areas. They measure fields and use thermal imaging cameras to detect and warn of deer and other animals hiding in the field.

Potential of drones through advanced air mobility

In addition, unmanned air traffic could also resolve other difficulties in rural areas. Drones are one way of compensating for socio-economic disparities. The following concept is conceivable for supplying goods using drones. The goods are delivered to a central distribution center and then transported directly to the customer in a targeted and fast manner using drones. This type of supply is not only fast, but also improves the CO2 balance thanks to the electrification of the drones thanks to Advanced Air Mobility. Hatten-UAS German Flight Center

The Hatten-UAS German Flight Center is the location for BVLOS flights and UAS testing as well as for general drone testing. As a location in northwest Germany, the Hatten-UAS German Flight Center has the necessary ascent permit and a comprehensive infrastructure for VLOS and BVLOS flights with UAS.

The necessary ascent permit for BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) with UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) was granted to Flugschule Borkum GmbH by the State Aviation Authority of Lower Saxony. The Hatten-UAS site has thus reached another important milestone in the development of an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) strategy for a U-Space Reallabor North-West Germany and German Bight with the Bremen UAS Control Center (USSP). b.r.m. The Hatten-UAS German Flight Center offers an ideal combination of IT services, U-Space Service Provider (USSP) services and infrastructure for the integration of UAS into manned air traffic. The 3,600 square kilometer BVLOS flight area extends from Hatten-UAS across northwest Germany and the German Bight to the North Sea. Hatten-UAS is thus setting new standards for the development of UTM, UAS and BVLOS routes.

One focus of Hatten-UAS is the development of solutions for efficient interaction between UAS and manned aviation. We rely on remote identification using the triangulation of transponder signals. This makes it possible to identify all objects and aviation participants while increasing safety at the same time. It also complies with a new EU regulation on the remote identification of drones.

Flugschule Borkum GmbH is an essential part of the Hatten-UAS German Test Flight Center. With an extensive training program for pilots and remote pilots, the development and safety in the field of UAS, VLOS, BVLOS and UTM is promoted.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear friends and colleagues,

Santa Claus and his faithful reindeer have long since completed their integration into our airspace and the children are once again waiting for his arrival.

There has also been a lot of work on integration in unmanned aviation this year and perhaps we will soon be able to make it easier for Rudolph and his buddies to work in the Christmas airspace.

As 2023 draws to a close, I would like to give you a brief review of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) highlights that have moved us:

The AERO aviation trade fair took place in Friedrichshafen from April 19-22, 2023. With the joint stand "Specific Made in Bremen" and numerous partners, we were able to comprehensively present the capacities and activities in Bremen and northern Germany. Please take a look.

The 54th Paris Air Show took place in early summer. In close cooperation with the stakeholders of "Bremen - City of Aerospace", we were able to present the topic "U-Space Reallabor Nord-Westdeutschland und Deutsche Bucht & UAS-Leitstelle Bremen (USSP)" to a European and international audience and enjoyed the lively exchange on UTM, ATM and other topics. The 13th National Maritime Conference in Bremen on September 14 and 15, 2023 presented a wide range of innovations for the maritime world. Here we were able to shed extensive light on the cross-cutting topic of unmanned aviation in a maritime context. Impressions

Over the course of the year, we won the SKADRO project (Scalable Drone Communication Systems for U-Space Areas) and are currently in the middle of implementing it together with our partners from the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute and TU Berlin.Find out more.

Back in May, we were able to test the project idea "U-Space Reallabor Nord-Westdeutschland und Deutsche Bucht & UAS-Leitstelle Bremen (USSP)" with an initial launch around our Hatten-UAS German Flight Center at Oldenburg-Hatten airfield (EDWH).

As part of a comprehensive permit, we now have 3600 km² of flying area available for BVLOS operations.(Details)

Advanced Air Mobility" (AAM)

"Advanced Air Mobility" (AAM) refers to an advanced transportation system that uses airspace to move people and goods more efficiently.
This concept encompasses a variety of aircraft, including UAS, drones, air cabs and other types of unmanned and manned aircraft and systems.

Here are some key aspects of Advanced Air Mobility:

Electric and hybrid propulsion systems: Many AAM vehicles use electric or hybrid propulsion systems. These are not only more environmentally friendly than traditional combustion engines, but also enable quieter and more efficient flights.

Vertical take-off and landing (VTOL): The majority of AAM vehicles are designed for vertical take-off and landing. This enables them to operate in urban or confined spaces where conventional fixed-wing aircraft cannot be used.

Autonomy: Many AAM concepts include some degree of autonomy. Autonomous or semi-autonomous flight systems can reduce the need for human pilots and increase safety by reducing human error.

A "safe" day at b.r.m. IT & Aerospace GmbH

Today, b.r.m.'s team of 5 GDPR experts came together. Under the leadership of Mr. Harald Rossol, Mr. Markus Rossol and Mr. Marius Ammermann, b.r.m. received the DIN SPEC 27076 certificate today.

The certificate was presented by the external security experts Mr. Thorsten Brendel and Mr. Daniel Köster.

But this is only the beginning of the safe path...

The timetable for the upcoming ISO 27001 audit and certification was also defined today. The project is expected to take a very short time.

This can simply be attributed to the very good and existing certifications, guidelines, management systems and assets at b.r.m.. The imminent turn of the year at b.r.m. is "standardized"

A perfect stopover in Hatten (EDWH). After the electric batteries were recharged and ready to go on Wednesday, we set off successfully towards Hanover.

The ELEKTRA TRAINER D-MYET landed at Oldenburg-Hatten airfield today in bright sunshine. Pilot Uwe Nortmann is flying to 7 different airfields as part of the e-Flight Challenge. The D-MYET took off from Memmingerberg on Tuesday and made a stopover on the island of Norderney tonight.

After an early flight over the coast of northern Germany, the D-MYET arrived at Oldenburg-Hatten airfield at around 10:30 am. After a short break to recharge the all-electric aircraft, the journey continues.

The e-Flight Challenge 2023 will take place today at Hannover Langenhagen airfield, with the first entry of an electric aircraft. Further information can be found in the live ticker.

New drone strategies

On 29.11.2022, the European Commission announced its Drone Strategy 2.0. It wants to offer the European drone market new opportunities and further developments not only to make the use of drones commonplace, but also to create the world's most advanced safety framework.

In the European Union, drones have mostly only been used for smaller tasks. They have mainly been used for surveying infrastructure, monitoring oil spills and soil sampling. Sometimes drones have also been used to transport small medical supplies such as laboratory samples. There is still room for improvement in drone strategies. This is now set to change.

From the introduction of U-Space, the dedicated airspace for drones, in January 2023, the whole topic of drones is set to become part of everyday life for many people. Drones will then no longer be used solely by the military or for smaller purposes, but also for more commercial projects.

Strategies for drones in everyday life until 2030

In its Drone Strategies 2.0, the European Commission also describes its vision of the drone market in 2030, by which time drones will be performing important tasks for the general public.

Civilian drones will then be part of the emergency services. They will deliver medicines and may already be able to transport patients. They will also help with mapping, inspections and other monitoring. Flight operations should also be fully automated by then. Drones will then also act as so-called air cabs and transport people from A to B.

The Commission has come up with strategies to turn these ideas into reality. The training of pilots for the various types of drones and especially VTOLs will be renewed and expanded. In order to bring the European drone market into a commercial environment, an online platform for stakeholders and for the sustainable air mobility industry is also to be introduced. Furthermore, a strategic drone technology roadmap will enable a precise and independent organization of research and innovation.

The synergy between the civilian and military use of drones should also result in drone defense solutions for security. The Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, estimates that European drone services will be worth a total of 14.5 billion euros by 2030 and provide around 145,000 jobs.
